ON AIR
One Hour Drama Series
Politics, payola, police shootings, drugs, hot sex, and the best music ever...
The 1980s saw the emergence of Black Radio, and with it a platform for African Americans to get elected to political office.
The series is based on the true story of two young DJ’s in deeply segregated Dallas - a black woman from the North, and a white woman from the South. Brought together by the bloody murders of their family members, these two young women helped change the course of Black politics.
In the 1960's & 70's, African Americans fought for their rights. But real power comes through politics and lawmakers.
During the '80s, Black community radio stations, often owned by whites, gave African Americans a direct mouthpiece to rally voters for the election victories that put them in office and eventually led to President Obama.
“On Air” wraps hits of Prince, Luther, the Gap Go Band, and more into a story of black history that’s never been told: How two young women and in Black radio changed American elections, forever.
Today’s headlines of racism and police shootings prove how relevant the 80’s still are... and how far we have yet to go.
